The Manzanar Photographs . . .
Toyo Miyatake . . .
Toyo Miyatake’s photographs taken while internned at Manzanar War Relocation Center (1942 – 1945) will be on exhibit at the Eastern California Museum beginning March 31 . . .
We had to fit 80 21 X 17 framed photographs into a space that aesthetically should accommodate approximately 35 framed images . . . but I did what the “boss” wanted . . . anyway . . . the concept for the main “gallery” space is still a bit edge-y . . .
Some of the photos will be displayed horizontally on stacks of the empty cardboard storage boxes . . .
Instead of looking at images on the wall, visitors will look down . . . this approach was implemented about 10 years ago when the Miyatake photographs were first exhibited . . .
. . . the work in progress . . .
