Hooray . . . Sochi . . .
1. The Olympics in Sochi.RU have made me an avid fan of curling . . . a combination of the balance beam, billiards and chess . . . oh yeh and physics . . . altering the properties of the ice with the “brooms” . . . I’m glad I can sit down and relax . . . watching the strategic placing of the stones through 10 “ends” AND then watch as final placement of stones in a closely contested game is determined with a giant micrometer and not the human eye . . . OH yeh . . . and when one team cannot find a solution to the placement of their stones in the 10th end, they shake their opponent’s hand and concede the game . . .
I’d have to drive 4 hours to get to the Ice Station in Valencia CA if I wanted to actively participate . . .
2. Slopestyle snowboarding . . . the ski jump/flying event needs to be taken off the winter menu . . .
“Why?” you say . . . well, slopestyle is more demanding, and it’s an activity that is commonly practiced by snowboard enthusiasts on ungroomed, avalanche prone slopes whenever and wherever it’s possible . . . ski jumping/flying is not a sport practiced by the public . . . and the “half-pipe” needs to be retired as well . . .
Two Olympic “sports” for the working man/woman . . . no ski jump equipment at Mammoth Mountain but some damn good freestyle and slopestyle terrane . . .
As for scantily-clad RUSSIAN women athletes . . . u-u-uh . . . none were saved to MY photo file . . . nighty-night.
