Fang of the Sun . . .

I ran across these photos of my old Fang of the Sun mecha . . . I built this one back in the 1980’s . . . bought 5 kits in Little Tokyo . . . 3 Bushman, a Roundfacer, and the Mackerel . . . All examples of combat armor before the overly detailed “gundam” became popular . . . I wasn’t a fan or devout model builder, I just liked the figures and the fact that they were well articulated for the time period . . . especially here in the U.S.

Old #5 . . . minus the top of the cockpit.

Detail of the left arm and shoulder . . . I added the “hydraulic” lines . . . electrical wire from a dead laptop.

. . . and some extra details like patch plates on the leg and upper body.

Year in Review

I updated the “About” page a few days ago and thought maybe I should post something about what has gone on since I started this blog . . .

YEAR

YEAR

First a look back relative to where I was 30 days ago . . . I’ve definitely moved forward . . .
A figure I purchased a few months ago has been reconfigured using modeling putty – the “Voluptuous Neighbor” who now sits naked on the light stand . . .

YEAR

. . . the Red Paint MS M1 prototype is finished with minor detail mods to be made. I’ve started working with air curing “plumber’s” putty to create the rough figures for some of the prototypes that are currently in development.

YEAR

Although not meeting the projected goals for increasing monthly views, I should have 3k in 7 to 10 days. Yeh, I know it’s not a lot, but I don’t do “membership” come-on’s or free stuff “give-away’s” . . .

YEAR

Lotsa talk about Polaroid making a come-back, but it won’t be the same . . . I’ve been using the Poladroid app . . . and I’m satisfied with the results.

. . . the above image is a “real” Polaroid image from around 1980 . . . used the Polaroid “Reporter” camera.

I’m currently using a 4GB CF card as an external storage device, Why? . . . well I updated iPhoto a while back and it decided to “hide” my photos and set-up all sorts of “meta” crap so I had to find an alternative for saving downloaded images . . . I don’t use Photobucket or Flickr so I need to be able to “get” my images tout suite . . . without any “geeky” bullshit. I’m going to buy an iPad in the near future (30 to 60 days) . . . reason: I will only load the apps that I need . . . the iPad will “mirror” my iPod Touch.

Short year, yeh?

YEAR

Lots of self evaluation, where I’m going, where I’ve been . . .

YEAR

Yeh . . . that’s Karl Lagerfeld . . . I’ve become a “fan” of fakekarl.com . . . HOLY CRAP!! I’ve become a “fan” of something . . . but I’m still “bosu” in my kingdom

“Poladroid”

WTF . . .

POLA

OMG . . .

My daughter told me about this new app “Poladroid” that lets you convert your photo images into the old square Polaroid format. So I went online and dialed up http://www.poladroid.net and downloaded Poladroid.

First things first – I’m not a Mac user – I’m working on an old G4 until I get some PC software upgrades, so I had a bit of a time getting the new download into the applications folder and on the dashboard so I could start playing. Fortunately, my Mac daughter was in the house and came to install the new toy. !!!

And . . .

POLA

. . . 35mm format . . .

. . . one thing that you should keep in mind is that the new “Poladroid” app will crop the “35mm” image frame and make it square.

A great “scare” feature is the “flash” as the “camera” takes your picture _ I thought something had shorted out . . . it was just the camera “flash” on the monitor . . .

I haven’t checked my new images to determine where the sq. format centers itself. It’s sort of like switching from a 35mm Leica to a 21/4 square Hasselblad; you have to adjust the way you previsualize your subject matter, same thing with Poladroid: select images that have your primary subject in the center of the frame.

My Mac daughter also tells me that image color modification and cropping is random . . .

The app even makes the print eject noise . .

POLA

. . . time machine . . .

Well, the app is a Beta, so I suppose there will be modifications.

POLA

. . . Bushman . . .

Oh yeh, it takes a bit of time for the new images to “develop”, just like the “real” Polaroids used to – maybe even longer.

POLA

Old School detail . . .

Can’t wait to install Poladroid on my PC.

There’s really no limit to what can be done with this app . . .
